AIR FRIED GREEN TOMATOES - Gluten, Grain and Dairy Free

Fried Green Tomatoes might be the reason we moved to the south, kidding, but it's definitely a factor. I've been wanting to chef these up at home and perfected my recipe last week. These are made with a delish breading using blended Tomato Basil Crackers from Simple Mills (gluten and grain free).

What you'll need:

  • Green tomatoes, sliced into thin rounds, like you'd see on a sandwich

  • A box of your favorite crackers or bread crumbs, I used about a serving of crackers per medium/large tomato. Simple Mills makes great quality crackers that are gluten and grain free!

  • 1 egg per medium/large tomato

  • A blender if making your own breadcrumbs (I have used a Nutribullet on and off for years and always come back to it because it works and isn't bulky).

  • -Air fryer, I'm loving my Ninja foodi grille

How I make them:

  • After slicing my rounds, I set them aside and add a whisked egg to one bowl and the breadcrumbs to another

  • Simply dip each tomato slice into the egg and then into the breadcrumbs. Set them on a plate or paper towel.

  • Now just air fry!

  • I air fry them for about 8ish minutes, but check at 5 minutes to make sure they aren't burning!

  • You can also make these on the stove top using a frying pan and olive oil. You'd need to hear the oil and drop each in to cook.

My dipping sauce: I mix either buffalo or bbq sauce with a Greek yogurt (dairy free works). My favorite sauces are from Primal Kitchen

Let's get cooking! Bring these to your next event, it's the perfect easy appetizer!
