Katch Up with Kelly - Life Lately

Hello my friends, or should I say “hey y’all” now that I’m a southerner?

I think it may be time for my personality to stop being that I just moved to Nashville. But it is still so new that it’s truly what I want to chat with you guys about! I also love using this newsletter as a way to keep everyone updated on what’s happening in my life. I know not everyone is on social media as much as I am, so you probably miss some of my posts and stories. This newsletter is a little way to keep you on the know and tell you what’s up with my little life down here! Also, with what’s in my mind.

First off, thank you all so much for the support on my post last week about intentional drinking. It was so nice connecting with people who have been changing their drinking habits too. I think it an important topic, and my inbox is always open to chat. I have so much more to say on this topic and I plan to dive in more and more. I also plan to have a few podcast episodes about it. Oh yeah…

I really am planning on starting a podcast! I have wanted to do this for a long time, but it never felt right and I never felt like I could totally commit. It’s not something I want to do haphazardly, so the time needed to be right. I plan to explore it in the next few weeks and months. Maybe releasing it come the new year. I’m so excited! I would love any tips you have or any guest suggestions. I’m keeping the name to myself right now, but will share soon. It’s obviously wellness oriented!

Right now, I’m walking on the treadmill in the gym in our building. We have a gorgeous gym that I should probably use more, but you know I’m a class girl! I do love having the treadmill to go on walks when I don’t have the time or headspace to strut around outdoors. I’m looking out at down Nashville (see photo below) and I’m just happy to be here. I’m getting used to living here. I’m getting used to the roads. I know my way to Pilates! I know which highway we take (route 65!). I have a few coffee shops I’ve been enjoying. We have tried a few restaurants around the city. The city is massive and overwhelming in a good way. I have a huge list of places I’d like to try and I have to keep reminding myself that we live here, we are not just on a vacation. We can go to these places whenever!

I keep asking Quinn if he feels homesick yet or what he is missing. I think it’s too soon to truly miss anything just yet because it’s only been 3ish weeks. I won’t speak for him here. I do miss access to my family, I think that’s the one thing that will get me. As many of you know most of my family lives within a few miles of each other, and I no longer am part of that little circle of proximity. I’m happy we have social media and phones to stay connected. I was sitting on my balcony today watching the start of the sunset and had the realization that here (obviously) we don’t watch the sunset over the water. We have these intensely orange sunsets that are way beyond some hills and reflect off the city buildings. It’s gorgeous, but so different.

If you follow me on TikTok you may have seen my videos about differences I’m noticing between the north and the south, or Rhode Island to Nashville specifically. The first was that you can clip the gas pump down and walk away…amazing. I feel free! Hahaha! The second is that the large coffees are quite small here. Maybe us northern people just need more caffeine to keep up with our hustle filled lives hahaha.

Side note as I am writing this I felt someone looking at me on the treadmill and it was in fact the Quinn! Four treadmills away because he will not workout near me or associate with me at the gym.

Back to the writing.

The third difference is the Walmarts. Y’all! They are next level. The one I was in yesterday had a salon and auto body shop. I may need to take you on a Walmart tour eventually. It’s wild.

Yesterday, we had our first bout of bad weather. A real tornado warning that was serious southwest of us. The weather patterns here are odd because of the two weather streams (idk guys go with me with here) that flow through. Hence making tornados. Nothing touched down and it was not near downtown Nashville, but the outskirts had the sirens and all. I know some people lost power and had strong winds. I was picking up Quinn from work and experienced the heavy rain, thunder, dark sky and some very twisty winds. I was a little thrown to be honest, but everything was totally fine!

This weekend we are focused on getting Quinn a car. The market is so crazy that it’s just hard to find a car that is exactly what you’re looking for. I think he picked one out and will be getting it over the weekend. It’s also hard because he is in the office all week, so the weekends are truly the only time to look around. Once that’s settled I am pretty set on forcing him to come to a pumpkin patch with me. Catch us on Instagram stories this weekend frolicking around the patch! Jk, I will be frolicking and he will be forced to film it. We also need to book our thanksgiving mini vacation. We are going somewhere a few hours away for the long weekend since we both have time off. It’s a great excuse to explore the amazing places in TN. We won’t be headed to Rhode Island or Boston until the holidays, we felt that moving in September was a little too close to Thanksgiving and we want to be settled. Im also hoping to fully finalize our apartment this weekend with decor and hanging things. We are 90% there!

Tomorrow, we are headed to Jason Isbell at the Ryman in Nashville. I have never been to this venue and I can’t wait! We both love his music and figured we can take advantage of Nashville’s great music scene, so grabbed last minute tickets earlier this week. I’m also excited to try out this tapas restaurant nearby before the show, I’ve had it saved in my phone, woohoo!

Ok, time to put my phone down and get back to my treadmill strut. Tonight we were going to make Crunchwrap's but I’m lazy and just wanna chill. I filled two recipes today, so I’m over it hehe. I think we are going to watch The Patient on Hulu and then keep watching Handmaids Tale. Quinn is watching it for the first time, so I’m rewatching until we are caught up to the new season that is out. Upon rewatching, not only am I just disturbed, but I missed so much watching it for the first time! Oh wait, I also started Nashville! I watched some of the first season years ago because I love queen Connie, but now that I live here I had to pick it back up. It’s so fun seeing the city and knowing where things were filmed. Even some of the political drama is sort of real. Great watch if you’re looking for a fall series.

Thank you for reading this! Keep in touch with me on social media or my inbox is always open!
